Hueneme Fishing Pier at Hueneme Beach
Climate: "Just Another Day in Paradise"
Mild winter temperatures and cooling midsummer sea breezes
typify Port Hueneme's subtropical temperate climate. Mean monthly low temperatures range
from 45 to 58 degrees, and mean monthly maximum temperatures range from 52 to 71 degrees.
Rainfall averages between 9 and 14 inches per year.
Air Quality: "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever"
According to the South Coast Air Quality Management District and the
Ventura County Air Pollution Control District, Ventura County has 94% fewer days exceeding
federal ozone standards than Burbank and 84% fewer days than Los Angeles.
Recreation: "Life's a Beach"
Port Hueneme is home to the only city-owned and maintained beach
park in Ventura County. Compared to Quimby Act Standards, the city's 90 acres of park land
exceeds the statewide norm by more than one-third. Local facilities include a community
center, library, historical museum, athletic center, and cultural arts center.
Law Enforcement: "Public Safety is Priority One"
Port Hueneme has its own hometown police force of 21 sworn
officials-one of only five cities in the county with its own police department. With a
service area of less than five square miles, response time is generally within five
minutes. Crimes per capita are among the lowest in the county.
Education: "Today's Students, Tomorrow's Leaders"
Hueneme Elementary School District is nationally recognized
for its "smart classrooms", and the city's percentage of high school
graduates outpaces the County and State. Both Charles Blackstock School and E.O. Green Jr.
High have won the Blue Ribbon award, the highest federal honor bestowed on public schools.
Off-campus extensions of the California University and State University systems, and a
local community college, are also within a 20-minute drive of Port Hueneme.
